Supporting the Mission of Our Military and Allied Forces

Supporting National Defense: W Machine Works’ Role in Lockheed Martin’s AGM-158 JASSM Missile Program

At W Machine Works, we manufacture a part for the Lockheed Martin AGM-158 Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile (JASSM) program and are proud to play a role in providing security for the United States and its allies. We’re proud to work with Lockheed Martin to provide the support for strengthening the military and defense of allied forces, with a legacy of precision manufacturing. Lockheed Martin’s advanced missile system relies on our components to ensure it delivers reliable, high performance weapons to the U.S. Air Force, Navy and their foreign military partners.

Expanding Defense Reach with the JASSM-XR

The JASSM line is advanced by Lockheed Martin’s development of its AGM-158 XR, or ‘Extreme Range,’ version. However, range and payload have been increased significantly to extend operational reach with this missile. The body is elongated to increase fuel capacity and the 1,000 pound warhead allows it to strike targets deep in contested airspace. Working with Lockheed Martin, W Machine Works supports the U.S. military’s ability to engage threats farther away, and defender survivability, a strategic asset that allows the U.S. to maintain battlefield superiority.

Supporting the Mission of Our Military and Allied Forces

The Air Force recently awarded Lockheed Martin two contracts worth $3.56 billion, to produce the AGM-158 JASSM and the AGM-158C Long Range Anti-Ship Missile (LRASM). Orders have been placed for these missiles by partner nations, such as Japan, the Netherlands, Finland and Poland and they are crucial to U.S. and allied defense efforts. W Machine Works helps support a mature, efficient production line that can produce 720 missiles per year, and hope to ramp up to 1,100 annually. The high production rate of these advanced weapons shows strong demand and critical importance of these weapons in the intricate global security environment.

The JASSM and LRASM are defined by stealth, so our components are painstakingly engineered to withstand the stresses of high speed and long range flight. We must also produce each part that we produce to Lockheed Martin's rigorous standards of quality and reliability for these weapons to perform well in these demanding environments.

A Collaboration Built on Precision and Commitment

Lockheed Martin and W Machine Works are a prime example of the ongoing defense industry collaboration that supports national and allied defense. Modularity along with what the company calls smart internal design is part of Lockheed’s approach to innovation, which makes for easier upgrades and anticipating of future military needs. W Machine Works is a trusted supplier to Lockheed Martin in meeting the U.S. Department of Defense's ever evolving requirements for defense technology.

Lockheed's forward looking approach can be seen in the new JASSM-XR variant with a potential range potentially reaching 1,000 miles — double the existing JASSM-ER’s range. The extended range allows aircraft to strike from further away and quickly start and stop missions which increases mission tempo and enhances overall defense readiness. The JASSM-XR’s extended range and highly adaptable design represents a huge step forward that not only allows for today’s needs but will continue to adapt to future needs as well.
